Qian Shi is an animation director, author & illustrator based in London, UK.

 

Originally from China, Qian has spent her most formative years in Europe, cultivating a rich cross-cultural perspective that informs her creative work.

After taking her degrees in BA Animation at Hogskulen i Volda, Norway, and MA Communication Design at Centre Saint Martins, London UK, her professional career took off with notable projects like Tim Burton’s Frankenweenie, and since then, she has established herself as a freelance animation director and illustrator.

 

Her charming style, and understanding of storytelling bring an engaging mood and humour to her work.

 

Her animated short film "Shoe" has been widely selected in International animation/film festivals; it has won The Best Student Film at BAF08 and MX Business Prize at Tokyo Anime Fair 2010 among many other awards.

Qian has collaborated with top studios, including Studio AKA, Moth Studio, Nexus Studios, and Hornet, directing and designing animations for clients such as Bayer, TED-Ed, CBBC, Facebook, Google, ITV, Samsung, and Volvo, as well as charitable organizations like the Salvation Army and Room to Read.

In 2018 her debut picture-book ‘The Weaver’ was published by Andersen Press, UK. The book has since been translated and published in multiple regions, including China, Singapore, Korea, and the United States.
